Biographical Information
The Legislature may cut millions in education funding in the next two years to address state budget shortfalls. How should your school district scale back spending?
Under the federal No Child Left Behind Act, all students are expected to meet proficiency standards by 2014. How would you ensure student achievement in your district?
If elected to the board of education, what would be your top priority?
Anita A. Mills:
I believe we must conduct a thorough appraisal of the district's strategic plan and evaluate whether or not the goals are realistic in lieu of the financial cuts that we are anticipating from the state. I think we must work together to collectively identify alternative ways to reduce costs without negatively impacting the quality of education provided to Circle District students. It will take creative and innovative ideas to meet the economic challenges facing our district.
Anita A. Mills:
I believe the first step is working with the teachers and administrators in the district to identify what they believe to be the essentials for student success. They are the experts in providing quality education and will be able to provide the necessary insight to help make the decisions that will affect all students. I believe it is the responsibility of the school board to ensure the appropriate tools for success are in place for the faculty to ensure students' success.
Anita A. Mills:
My top priority would be to continue to ensure that all students receive an excellent education that will prepare them to be successful after graduation. I believe we must support those programs and activities that promote success after graduation, whether it be pursuing a college degree, technical education, military service, or joining the workforce.
I believe what is critical to that success is recruiting and retaining excellent administrators and faculty in the district.

Michael D. Wyant:
The Circle School District must eliminate unnecessary spending. For instance, if the district is unable to maintain a sufficient paper supply for the entire school year, the district must learn how to utilize the inventory efficiently. The district needs to determine the number of notices to be distributed to district families, limiting these notices to one per household. Measures like this and establishing a mindset of proper supply management will help scale back spending tremedously
Michael D. Wyant:
The district will ensure student achievement by maintaining our current level of excellence. The district must continue to provide the student with the best educational surroundings possible, including but not limited to teachers, faculty, staff, supplies, facilities, and community involvement. These efforts will ensure excellence in education and exceed required proficiency standards.
Michael D. Wyant:
The district must demonstrate discipline and accountability. The district's employees must adhere to the same level of discipline and accountability that is so highly expected of it's students. After all, these employees are shaping the leaders of tomorrow and that responsibility should not be taken lightly.
