  1. Biographical Information
  2. The Legislature may cut millions in education funding in the next two years to address state budget shortfalls. How should your school district scale back spending?
  3. Under the federal No Child Left Behind Act, all students are expected to meet proficiency standards by 2014. How would you ensure student achievement in your district?
  4. If elected to the board of education, what would be your top priority?
Lisa Farris: We use a process of prioritizing and we carefully evaluate all areas.
Lisa Farris: By hiring and retaining highly qualified, highly effective staff and giving them the resources and support they need.
Lisa Farris: Obviously the budget will be a priority. Being fiscally responsible while providing students and staff what they need is a delicate balancing act!

Douglas A. Griswold: The Superintendant, staff, three Board members, educators and representative of the district met and discussed the strategy for educating the children of the district. Our work and communication from past years provided a foundation for the discussions and keeping us focused on the proper priorities. Our planning and foresight allowed us to trim the 2008-2009 budget by not releasing held funds, deferring lower priority purchases and use of contingency funds in place for just such a scenario.
Douglas A. Griswold: Our district and staff fully understand the ramifications and requirements of the NCLB Act of 2001. The annual assesment testing and evaluation of those results are factored into changes and modifications to the curriculum to assist children from beginnig to end in their education. The tests, however, are not the only requirement for a child's education. The NCLB provides a baseline of tested knowledge, but our educators and staff are there to provide skills and abilities beyond the minimum.
Douglas A. Griswold: A main of the Board of Education is to hire a Superintendant. Mr Edmonds has been our superintendant for 18+ years and has not announced his retirement, but can do so at any time. When that time comes, the BoE will have a high priority task and a limited time to act and hire a new superintendant. This person will be the face of the district and sets the strategy for the entire district. The task has long-term impact to district and all those living in it. I want to be part of that selection

Pam McCue: Due to the budget crisis we are in, as a school board member, I would emphasize the importance to thoroughly evaluate all programs at all age levels. I personally believe it is critical that all of the facts are looked at and scrutinized in the same manner. In doing this we can readjust our budget without jeopardizing the quality of education our kids receive.
Pam McCue: Students are capable of reaching amazing things. If we as a community provide them with the quality tools, they will continue to surpass our expectations. As a board member, I would emphasize that we employ highly qualified educators at every level. We must ensure our educators have the necessary tools to help continue the positive achievement working toward the proficiency standards that have been set.
Pam McCue: As I have been heavily involved in preparation and planning for the recent growth in our district, it is important to me that this continues to be a high priority in the months/years to come. It will be necessary to work closely as a unified board to meet budget restraints as we prepare the district for the changes we will encounter and also insure that we provide the best education we can to our students.

Kevin R. McWhorter: The Board is working closely with the District Central Office to identify areas in our budget where we can implement cuts based upon the amount of funding decrease which may come from the Legislature. At our last Board meeting on March 9th we announced the results of our work. Our goal was to look at all options to ensure there would be no cuts in personal which would increase student/teacher ratios. I am comfortable we met our goal.
Kevin R. McWhorter: The Board spends a significant amount of time pouring over the results of the testing for No Child Left Behind. We are very proud of our kids and the results they have achieved so far. The Board is always looking "outside the box" for ways to help our kids do their very best. The one thing any Board member can do to ensure maximum student achievement is to provide the students with the very best teachers, administrators, staff and learning environment. At Goddard we believe we have the best.
Kevin R. McWhorter: Clearly, with the economy in the shape that it is our short term priority would appear to be our budget. Our everyday top priority is always our kids. At every level in the district when a decision is made we ask ourselves, is this best for our kids? Is this responcible to our taxpayers? In no time in my life has it been more important to prepare our kids to meet the challanges of the real world than it is right now.

Jeff Vap: As of 3-23-o9 the house of representetives has completed their budget for 2009 and there is a cut of 26 million for the entire state, this means that their will be a cut to our school budget of less than than 1 percent, and I am sure we will will be able to live with this without drasticly changing the programs in the schools.
Jeff Vap: I propose that we can reach our goals by striving to ensure that all needs are met on an indivisual basis, as we know all our children are different and they will need to be taught in accordance to their needs, in an joint effort with the teaches and parents.
Jeff Vap: 1. I believe that a direct and open dialog is absolutely imperitive between the Board of Education (BOE) and the school principles, teachers, and most impotantly the parents, direct contact will allow us to understand the needs of the indivuals, all the seperate schools, and the home envirement. We must utilize the information we collect to create and improve upon what we have now as our system 2. We must take care of and retain our teaching staff through better benefits and insurance plans.
