Jim Valentine: I am running for 1st ward council seat because I believe we need an effective and direct voice in 1st wards concerns in Wellington City Government.
Jim Valentine: As a person who honestly cares about his community, not just 1st ward, but but the body of people who make up this city, their wishes and desires, for a better, more affordable place to live I would hope would make my position qualifiable. I have lived in Wellington all of my life. My family had a total of 50 years of business in this city. Except for my Military service in Vietnam in the late 60's I have been in retail or self employed business. I have owned my business for 33 years.
Jim Valentine: Jobs! economic times are rough now and we need to hold on to what we can for as long as we can. We need to offer incentives to bring in businesses, tax breaks and utility breaks (within reason) and other incentives if possible.
Jim Valentine: Clean this city up! Blight is a big issue here, and we are working on that. Street repair, adequate drainage on streets, proper lighting and signage are a must, add downtown revitalization to all of the above, (this is being worked on also) a town that looks good can sell itself! As for other priorities, we need to look to the future, continue to enhance the introstructure of our city. A community to me is like a child, it needs continued guidance, focus and support in a very positive manner.
Jim Valentine: My feeling on open records is my position on all things pretaining to city government, we work for the people of this community, they have put their trust and faith in us and I feel being honest and open with these people is the right God given thing to do.

The Wichita Eagle invited candidates in some contested races in Sedgwick, Butler and Sumner counties to respond to questions about key issues. You can compare the candidates and their responses side by side, and create your own printable or e-mailable ballot. The responses are largely unedited and presented as the candidates sent them to us.
