Tamara Potter:
To have input on the direction & future of the city
Tamara Potter:
I have been a city council member since 2005, I own a home & a business in the city of Rose Hill & am unbiased & open minded in my decisions.
Tamara Potter:
Street Improvements. 1) Look into a sales tax increase or enact a use tax on autos; 2) Make budget cuts elsewhere to allot more funds toward streets
Tamara Potter:
Attracting more businesses to Rose Hill by working with local business owners & the Chamber of Commerce to recruit such businesses, & work to educate the citizens of the community of the importance of shopping locally to attract & maintain businesses. Encourage outside commerce by initiating a Rose Hill advertising campaign.
Tamara Potter:
I believe every aspect of government should be open & transparent. We are representing the people & spending their tax dollars, so they need to know exactly where their money is being spent & what decisions are being made.

David Vernia:
I think that everyone should become involved in their community, whether it be volunteering with civic organizations or serving on one of the advisory boards that are in place to guide the governing body. But overall, I enjoy politics and contributing to good public policy, and enjoy working with people.
David Vernia:
I am currently the Chairman of the Park & Tree Board, Vice Chairman of Crime Stoppers and a Board Member of the Kansas State Sign Association. Several years ago, I served 2 terms as a Councilman for the City of Rose Hill. I have also been an active member of the Planning & Zoning Board, Recreation Commission, Baseball / Softball Board, Jr. Wresting and Jr. Football boards.
David Vernia:
The biggest issue facing Rose Hill will be filling the open position of City Manager. I would be active in the interview process, using my experience in the business world of looking for the best candidate possible who would be the best in performance of the following duties.
· Supervising day-to-day operations of all city departments
· Supervising the department heads
· Preparing a draft city budget each year with options for the council to vote on
· Researching and making recommendations about topics of interest to the council
· Meeting with citizens and citizen groups to understand their needs better
· Providing executive leadership that encourages good performance by city workers
· Operating the city with a professional understanding of how all city functions operate together for best results
David Vernia:
In today’s economic downturn, we need to scrutinize each and every project for its merits and what it would do for the betterment of Rose Hill before allotting any revenues toward it. Now is the time to put the brakes on government spending on unneeded expenditures and focus on finding alternative funding to help the offset the burden of the citizens on upcoming projects.
David Vernia:
Records must be accessible to the public. Citizens have a right to know how public decisions are made and to participate in making them. However, there are certain issues that involve classified information, and it is important for government officials to respect the privacy of these records. I believe it is important for government to find the proper balance between open records and confidentiality in personnel issues, real property negotiations and matters pertaining to pending litigation. Citizens must be able to "see through" the workings of the elected governing body, to observe what goes on when public officials transact public business.
