Shawn W Riley: My wife and I choose to start our family in the Derby area because of the quality of life we can provide for our daughter. Derby is a rapidly growing area and with rapid expansion comes some growing pains. I would like to preserve and enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Derby as well as cultivate a culture of economic expansion.
Shawn W Riley: I believe my professional experience along with my formal education provides me with a unique point of view. I have an uncanny ability to view issues from multiple angles and still provide an objective voice for Derby in the 4th ward. I was an active member of the board of directors for the East Wichita Business Association as well as an active member of the continuing education committee for the Wichita Area Association of Realtors.
Shawn W Riley: Currently the city of Derby is looking at a system of trash franchising/curbside recycling. I propose that we build rate hike measures in to the contract. The City of Derby proposed a seven year contract with the winning company. I propose that we lock in the initial rate with the winning company for three years. I also propose that we revisit the rate with the winning company every year to determine if any adjustments are needed.

Shawn W Riley: I support transparency in all levels of government as long as the confidentiality of private citizens is not compromised. I believe the KORA and the KOMA were set in place so Kansans could access public information and access public meetings where decisions were being made affecting the citizens. I believe in and support several exceptions to KORA such as the exclusion of personal financial information and the exclusion of records involving abused and neglected children.

The Wichita Eagle invited candidates in some contested races in Sedgwick, Butler and Sumner counties to respond to questions about key issues. You can compare the candidates and their responses side by side, and create your own printable or e-mailable ballot. The responses are largely unedited and presented as the candidates sent them to us.
