Ron Reavis: The present city councilman has served well for several years. I have no complaints on his representation. I feel I can bring new energy and fresh ideas to our council. I have no agenda or pet projects, just the desire to make Augusta a better place to visit or call home.
Ron Reavis: I recently retired after 31 years with a local fire department. I held several positions of rank within the fire department that afforded me the opportunity to assist in budget development and providing services within that budget. I am accustomed to making decisions, even the unpopular ones. I can develope relationships with other people and organizations to assist with getting things done. I have education in leadership and public management.
Ron Reavis: Economic uncertainty and it's effect on local government. Augusta has many people employeed in the aircraft industry. Wichita's economy flows east to Augusta. This stresses our limited community resources that assist people in need. Local goverment is where the buck stops when the federal and state goverment makes their cuts. Augusta has very little fat in it's present budget. As council member, I would be fiscally responsible to assure we spend wisely and seek ways to increase our tax base.
Ron Reavis: Our council is currently working on a levy improvement project to protect against flooding. Our community should never have to suffer from another flood. Augusta has a community Vision document the community needs to embrace. I would like to increase our community pride and community involvement. This could be accomplished by using volunteers in projects, especially if they are given the tools and direction to accomplish their task and a sense of ownership once the project is completed.
Ron Reavis: I firmly believe in open and honest government. I feel the present state laws are adequate to provide the information the public has the right to know, but to allow government to maintain the occassional need of confidentiality. Sometimes the lack of transparency is the result of someone not providing good customer service by being unwilling to answer the question, or make the extra phone call to see what other level of government or private sector can provide the service requested.
