Donna Clasen:
Re-election will allow me to continue to provide services based on fiscal responsibility. During these difficult economic times my experience and dedication will be beneficial in prioritizing goals and strategies to accommodate future projects for the City of Maize. My decisions will be based on my professional qualifications, dedication, leadership, integrity, factual information and input from qualified staff and Maize citizens.
Donna Clasen:
Qualifications for my service include attending Butler Community College and Wichita State University (WSU) studying accounting, finance, economics, management and technology courses. In addition, I have been employed in middle management positions and supervised numerous computerized operations.
Service to the Maize Community has been a part of my life for over 35 years. I have served as a:
• Maize City Council Member for twelve (12) years, currently President
• Member of the Maize Planning Commission
• Member of the Maize USD 266 Facility Needs, Bond Steering Committees
• Member of the Maize Complete (Alternative) High School Committee
• Member of the Maize USD 266 Board of Education for twelve (12) years,
o President and Vice-President
Donna Clasen:
Fiscal responsibility so future prioritized projects can be accomplished is the biggest challenge for the Maize Council.
Donna Clasen:
Goals I would like to achieve through re-election to the Maize City Council include:
• Continued improvement of the parks
• Continue to address drainage issues
• Widen Maize road north to K-96 highway
• Encourage Maize Citizens to take pride in property ownership by sponsoring clean- up day (s) and assisting property owners with clean-up
• Economic development – encourage businesses and manufacturing to locate in Maize
• When and if possible, lower or maintain city tax levy
Donna Clasen:
When I am responsible for citizen’s tax dollars, and I am implementing change within our community, I should be held accountable for my decisions. Being accountable includes open records, meetings, openness and transparency in government.

Rex Patterson:
I want to be the eyes, ears, voice and vote for the people of Maize as a City Council Member. On critical issues such as bringing Barsol Solvents and Wichita City Water into our town, I believe the people of Maize should be kept informed, and have a choice on these matters. I plan to do this to the best of my ability if elected. I wish to present an unbiased representation of the citizens of Maize, taking their cares and concerns into account for the overall good of the community.
Rex Patterson:
I have lived in Maize for 33 years and raised my 2 children here. I am an active member in my church and have been all my life. I have worked at Bomabardier Learjet for 32 years as a tool and die maker and have taken many professional courses at Learjet to improve my performance for the company. I am a good listener and care about what the citizens of Maize want for their town.
Rex Patterson:
Bringing in Wichita City Water for Maize residents, from Tyler to Maize road on 37th Street, without raising taxes. I would recommend using the current Maize City water system, or expand on the current system and wait until further funding can be provided from other sources. So that Maize can charge for the water, NOT the city of Wichita, which will keep much needed funds in Maize!
Rex Patterson:
Prevent further increases in taxes by applying for more government subsidized funding, and not rushing into million dollar decisions that affect the taxation of the entire community. I would also like to change the closed nature of the City Council meetings, and the "special" meetings that they have to vote on issues that the citizens aren't aware of.
Rex Patterson:
I stand firm that records should be open to the public as should the meetings, citizens should be allowed to speak freely at meetings, at any time during the meetings. I believe in open, honest communication between the Mayor, Council members, and the people. Having a forum where citizens are only allowed to put down their name at the beginning of a meeting with pre-formed questions, doesn't address issues that come up later, and usually go unadressed. Governments should have open records.

Cathy Reed:
I am running for Maize City Council to insure the voice of the citizens is heard. As a city, we have work to do to make our town motto, "Where Community Counts" meaningful.
Cathy Reed:
Over the last eight years as a Maize City Council Member, I have worked diligently to inform citizens about important issues facing the city, such as the Barsol Chemical relocation and the Wichita/Maize water agreement. As a Maize business owner, most citizens know where I am and that I am available to listen. This way I can learn about what is important to them and respond in a manner that reflects those concerns.
Cathy Reed:
I feel like the biggest issue facing the City of Maize is that the governing body as a whole does not listen to the concerns of the citizens they represent. Maize citizens want lower taxes and lower utility bills. Currently, several members of the governing body do not listen to these requests and petitions. This needs to change immediately.
Cathy Reed:
Ongoing drainage solutions, visitor-friendly policing, and lower utilities/taxes are priorities. I think railroad right-of-way drainage alternatives will improve city drainage issues. Open visibility of police vehicles will effectively deter speeding, thus improving visitor/PD relations. Strengthening infrastructure, supporting development, and increasing our tax base will decrease our utility rates and high mill levy.
Cathy Reed:
The Maize City Council meetings need to be recorded and aired on our city channel 20. The city website should be updated weekly, our city newsletter should include meeting minutes, and it should be published monthly instead of every 3 months. Informing the citizens of Maize about current and future plans is the first step to having public involvement and support.

Patrick Stivers:
I am running because I like to get involved. I want to have an opinion of how the city of Maize grows and its future. After serving on the planning commission for over six years I feel this is the next step for me to get involved at a higher level.
Patrick Stivers:
In addition to serving on the planning commission for the past six years I bring a very unique qualification in that my position as an outside salesman I have physically been to every city in Kansas and work with Cities, Counties, Contractors, and the State on Pavement Maintenance issues. I also talk to cities about their problems and can bring this experience to Maize. I am also involved with many organizations regarding public works.
Patrick Stivers:
Our bggest issue right now is controlling our cities growth and finding ways to pay for it in a responsible manner. Examples to control our spending while at the same time growing would be working with surrounding cities, the couty, and the State to split costs and by working to get businesses to come to Maize. The K-96 highway is an uptapped opportunity for Maize.
Patrick Stivers:
A long term priority is the Northwest bypass that KDOT wants to put in. My opinion is that KDOT not put it in where they currently have it planned. I do not want it to go through what is fast becoming the middle of Maize. I am for the bypass but would like to see it installed further west of Maize. I will work with the county and KDOT with this goal.
Patrick Stivers:
I believe in complete open records and open meetings. As council members we are doing the peoples business and the people should know what we are doing. We work for them.
